Drake Murray · Google, Aug 10, 2026

“I reached out to James for legal advice about an issue I was dealing with. James was very professional and knowledgeable. I had spoken to a few other attorneys, but the advice I received I was not to confident in. James confirmed my suspicion and gave me solid advice. I walked away with a much better understanding and understood what my options were. Thank you.”

After a DWI arrest

What happens next

Your license

A refused or failed breath or blood test starts a license suspension in a separate administrative process. You have 15 days from the notice to request a hearing.

The criminal case

A first DWI is heard in one of the Collin County Courts at Law at the Russell A. Steindam Courts Building on Bloomdale Road.

The evidence

We go through the stop, the field tests, the breath or blood result and the video, and prepare the case as if it goes to trial.

The first conversation

What the first conversation looks like

You tell us what happened, in your own words. The consultation is free.

We explain the charge, the bond conditions and what the court does next.

You hear one price for the whole case. It covers a trial if there is one.

DWI charges

Every DWI is different

First DWI

Usually a Class B misdemeanor. A conviction can bring jail time, a fine, a license suspension and an ignition interlock.

DWI with a child passenger

A felony in Texas when the passenger is younger than 15, even on a first arrest.

Felony DWI

Prior DWI convictions or a crash with serious injury or death can make it a felony, heard in the district courts.

Test refusal

Refusing a breath or blood test starts its own license suspension. The license case and the criminal case run side by side.
